AmCham is excited to present what we believe is the first event of its kind in Cambodia regarding the trusts and taxes in Cambodia. This unique in-person event, sponsored by DFDL, STRONGHOLD TRUSTEE, and IPS will be held at Atom ( inside Vattanac Tower) in Phnom Penh on August 30th, 2022 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am (registration from 8 am).

In 2019, Cambodia introduced a new Trust Law followed by implementing regulations outlining the registration and license requirements for trusts. Given the onset of the pandemic following the enactment of the Trust Law the trust sector in Cambodia is still relatively young although in recent times there has been some publicity regarding the role of Trustees with respect to the control and management of immovable property. Our breakfast workshop will provide an overview of the Trust Law and implementing regulations and also focus on the tax implications regarding trusts in Cambodia with an insight into the regional taxation trends that Cambodia may follow in the future.

At the breakfast workshop, H.E. Sok Dara, Director General of the Trust Regulation will deliver the keynotes. Other expert speakers include Ms. Vansok Khem (Partner – Deputy Head of Corporate and Commercial Practice Group, DFDL) and Mr. Jonathan Blaine (Co-Head of Regional Compliance & Investigations Practice; Tax Director, Thailand), who will discuss the following legal and tax topics:

- An overview of Cambodia's Law on Trusts

- Creation of a valid trust

- Regional trends with respect to the taxation of Trusts

- How are Trusts currently taxed in Cambodia

- Potential future developments regarding the taxation of trusts

After the presentation, there will be a panel discussion with our experts with Mr. Hans Chen (General Manager of Stronghold Trustee, and Mr. Adam Fitzpatrick (Country Director from IPS), Ms. Chhean Sokhary (Director of Department of Legal Affairs and Inspection) moderated by Mr. Clint O'Connell (Tax Partner, DFDL, and Chairman of the AmCham Tax Committee). The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session where you will have a chance to ask your questions and interact with the speakers.
