Historically, businesses in Cambodia have relied on family equity, friends, or investment from private persons, and private loans and bank debt for capital. Since the launch of the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) in 2011, we currently have 9 listed stocks (7 on the main board and 2 on the growth board) and 6 outstanding listed bonds (excluding 4 bonds that were matured). In recent years, the private equity and venture capital markets have flourished, with private investors, companies, and funds investing and taking stakes in Cambodian start-ups. This has provided a much-needed source of capital for entrepreneurs and for medium and large companies to expand and grow their businesses.

AmCham presents the "Rise of the Capital Market and Venture Capital in Cambodia" - a forum which explores the emergence of the capital markets and private equity in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The forum will include speakers from all categories of the capital markets, including the Cambodia Stock Exchange, the Fund Sector, Private Investors, Companies that raised capital in Cambodia and Start-ups. Subjects will include the roots of the Cambodia Stock Exchange and journey from 2011 to present and its future plans; the capital markets in the Kingdom; the process of listing; raising capital through private equity and venture capital; developing the fund management industry; and experience sharing from a selection of Cambodia's best entrepreneurs and start-ups. This is the first annual Capital Markets Forum in the Kingdom, covering the gambit of capital sources, with the country's best experts.
